About Tanya Rooney

Tanya Rooney is a real estate proprietor, podcast host, author, and coach, helping entrepreneurs build scalable momentum by creating communities that are centered around growth, education, and authentic networking. As the owner of BAFS Real Estate and Yay You’re Here Properties in her home state of Minnesota, Tanya has spent the last 15 years building her own career, as well as coaching others, on the foundation of resourcefulness and connection with others. Her philosophy is that no one can win alone, and this stands as the cornerstone of her Tribe Builders brand. Most new entrepreneurs think that you have to walk through the fire alone before you can find your people, but Tanya believes the opposite. By teaching people how to create meaningful connections and build their own communities around shared vision and ambitions, she helps entrepreneurs accelerate their progress by creating an environment in which they can get the support, advice, and insight they need to make their next move.

Tanya also hosts the Tribe Builders Podcast, focused on bringing more attention to the importance of cultivating your community from the start, and was recently published as a co-author in a multi-author book called, Hospitable Hosts 3, in which she talks about her secret sauce for short term rentals success.  When Tanya isn’t talking about real estate and short term rentals she is podcasting, traveling, cooking, eating, cycling, hiking and most of those with her husband Matt!

The Thank You Project

In 2020, I started an adventure that included walking or jogging a mile a day. Rain or shine. I made it to day 315 when I needed to have mild surgery on both of my feet, which rendered me unable to shuffle a mile the first few weeks post-op. So May 1st, 2021, I started again, very determined to make it 365 days, and I did! Over both of these journeys I have gotten a lot better at reflecting on the time spent working on my habits and sharing those reflections with the folks wanting to follow along with me. I send out a few cards a week to thank someone or encourage someone in my life who needs it, whatever it may be. So, when I was reflecting on Day 365 (April 30, 2022), I realized I wanted to start a new goal that consisted of 365 Thank Yous.

Along this journey of sending out lots of cards over the past two years, I realized how much joy I got out of the impact I could make with something that took me less than a minute or two a day. Every 3rd or 4th card I would send, I got a text back with a picture of it and some kind of mention that it was unexpected or that it made someone’s day, or that it was just what was needed for that person. So, if I could write a thank you card each day and make an impact on half of the people I sent them to over a year, that would be 182.5 people or days I could give someone a smile or make them feel seen for just a moment. How. Cool. Is. That?! I love telling people thank you for supporting me, encouraging me, and impacting me in ways they would NEVER know unless I told them.

When I started my mile a day, I used social media as an accountability tool, which means I posted about it every day or every few days. Lots of people have reached out to me because of it and told me they are working on a mile a day or working on getting out with their spouse for a walk a few times a week or whatever their daily goal has become because #LESSexcuses. Well, what if I could influence, say, 10 people to do something like this with me? That’s potentially 1,800 people that could be impacted with a simple hello//thank you note, all because I am using social media to tell people what I am doing. The ripple effect is real and can be so cool. On May 1st, 2022, I started writing a thank you card every day. I am keeping track of everybody that gets one. I try to post daily to social media, and I take pictures of them every day (so I remember what I wrote and what card I sent). I write what day I am on and you obviously scanned the QR Code I put in them too!

We already know being grateful on the daily can impact a person’s mood and outlook so I am stoked to see how writing a thank you every day will affect me over an entire year.
