Cults, Community, and a New Perspective: My Take on Landmark Forum
I had a pretty astonishing weekend. I did a Landmark Forum event, have you ever heard of this? I didn’t know anything about it up until a few weeks ago. A friend of mine went through two of their weekends and she was noticeably different afterwards. So I joined one of the nights for her, learned a bit about it, then chose to sign up for a weekend course. I wanted to go to see what kind of stuff they talked about. The premise from what I understood was how we think of and act because of the stories we have in our head and then how to get over them. Well, that definitely became clear, plus more. It was a super interesting weekend trying to figure out all the things that I have interpreted over the years, what kinds of things happened in different times of my life and how I made up for those circumstances ever since, how to see new opportunities and possibilities in relationships. A ton of things. I did some googling to them beforehand and saw lots of reddit stories about it being a cult. I saw some of the ways they could definitely be viewed as a cult. But then over the weekend I was talking to Matt. I told him some of the stories I read about and that people’s spouses or friends or family members would join and then all they would talk about is Landmark and they would sign up for more events with Landmark and they would go hang out with other Landmark people. SO I got to thinking that all of the masterminds I have been in have also had this side effect. I got to hang out with people that also only wanted to talk about their dreams in real estate or hosting. I would spend money to go to events to hang out with these people. I talk to these people DAILY and have since I joined my first mastermind, 7 Figure Flipping. I hung out with them every chance I could get because I was around MY people that thought like ME. I am no longer sure if I haven’t already been part of half a dozen cults over the last 10 years. And I am not saying there isn’t tactics used in any group to “SPREAD THE GOOD NEWS” but I think some of it happens with good intentions because they want to help as many people as possible, whether that is to become a great host, to buy all the real estate you want, or to find all the possibilities you could have then follow some of them.
If I start talking about building a village//community//or compound in another country, you can assume I have gone into the deep end of the pool…
