Gifts Of Time
Yesterday we spent the day bringing our 4 year old niece to the aquarium. It is year two of this little trip for us. She talked about it all fall and around Christmas. We knew she was looking forward to it.
I’m telling you this because I realize how fun gifts of time are instead of gifts of toys or presents. We have created a routine in our families and the littles in our lives (god children) that holidays we try to spend time with them. Bring them to their favorite places to eat or to get the food they love. Go do something fun like an escape room, the aquarium, zoo, shopping, or a game, movies, whatever they want honestly. And potentially something they get to pick out themselves as a gift. It has been the most joyous thing for me. I really have fun getting to spend time with the young humans in my life. They show so much wonder and curiosity. Getting to know a different generation of people that have no idea what it’s like to live without technology and screens like we did. It’s interesting to learn about their points of view and different ways to do things or look at the world. I just love it so much.
I’m writing about this because if it makes one person think twice about an expensive (or cheap) gift versus the gift of time, I hope they choose the gift of time. I think about the people I spent time with when I was young and I still really appreciate them and I’m 38 years old. Even if it’s not around the holidays and needs to be delayed to the spring, there is something about looking forward to it happening (for the person you are spending time with and yourself) as well as the day arriving!
Thanks for reading my thoughts for the day..
